Dear Dr. Kofinas and staff,
I can hardly believe I have a son to hold in my arms after all these years and all our heartache. So first and foremost, I thank you for the life of my baby.
Next, I want to thank you for the peace of mind I had during the pregnancy. Okay, I admit it- I was a nervous wreck. (But you knew that! ;-). However, there are different degrees of nervousness. I have had pregnancies where I was nervous because there were horrible things happening in the pregnancy-bleeding and contractions that kept getting worse, miscarriages, no heartbeats, etc. I am so grateful that you were able to prevent those manifestations of complications. I was anxious, but I knew I was anxious mostly because of my history and not so much because there were actual things going wrong. And I cannot thank you enough for that. The peace of mind that I had coming in as frequently as we did and seeing the sonograms and speaking to the doctor regularly and knowing exactly where we were holding brought me as much relief as was possible under those circumstances. I have been to other high-risk practices and feel that your level of care and medical expertise is not to be compared. Your methods and knowledge inspire a unique confidence.
The Jewish Sages describe an ideal of one who "sees what is born,"( in Hebrew "ha'ro'eh et hanolad") i.e., sees future events before they have fully developed. It is a specific skill to be able to see trends and how things will play out before they are fully expressed. It is a beautiful thing that in your practice, you look for hints of problems before they become unstoppable problems, at a point when you can actually do something and change the outcome! I will never forget when, at 15 weeks and bleeding more heavily, I called a high-risk practice that I had consulted at 11 weeks due to spotting. And they told me, "We can't do anything. Either he will live or he won't." My water broke in the fifth month and that baby is forever lost to me. I am so grateful to have found you, because your scrutiny and pre-emptive care prevented the same thing from happening again. Because of your ability to "see what is born," we have been fortunate to see our son born.
Thank you.
