Preeclampsia:Diagnosis and Management
This is a presentation on the old and the new concepts on preeclampsia. The presentation was prepared for physicians in practice and in training. It may be difficult to understand without the presenter but never the less, even non-medical professionals and other persons can learn a lot about this ancient disease for which we still have not found the way to prevent completely. At Kofinas Perinatal, we have noticed over the last 20 years, that the use of Lovenox for the management of thrombophilia has reduced the incidence of preeclampsia in such patients. Other randomized controlled studies have also shown that the use of Lovenox during pregnancy in patients at risk for preeclampsia reduces the incidence of the disease by 88%.
Additional Presentations:
- Cervical incompetence –Preterm labor: Preterm birth is the main cause of fetal and neonatal mortality and morbidity. Prematurity is responsible for many of the chronic diseases that appear after the 3rd decade of life. Prematurity has been increasing dramatically in the last 30 years. There are many reasons for this but the most important of them all is premature cervical shortening due to placental and uterine inflammation. In most patients, this inflammation is the result of placental necrosis/degeneration secondary to placental clotting of variable degrees. Proper treatment and monitoring can reduce prematurity in high-risk patients by as much as 90%. Educate your self and learn how to talk to your obstetrician.
- Essential Fatty acids: a good source of health: Essential Fatty Acids are fats that our body needs but cannot produce. DHA and EPA are absolutely necessary for health and life. Reduced consumption of omega-3 orincreased consumption of omega-6 fatty acids is associated with a number ofchronic diseases including cardiovascular, cerebral, diabetes, cancer, skindisorders and premature aging, Alzheimer’s, depression, bipolar disorders and other neurological diseases. Learn how to protect your health by improving you omega-3/omega-6 balance.
- Fetal Growth Failure: diagnosis and management: This is a presentation on the diagnosis and management of fetal growth failure. This is a presentation designed for medical audiences but every one is welcome.
- Fetal Nutrition and Adult Health: This presentation provides information about the importance of fetal nutrition and adult health. Poor fetal nutrition causes fetal growth problems and increased risk for poor adult health.
- Learn about the risks of IVF pregnancies and how to reduce them: This presentation was prepared for individuals without medical background. It is written in a simple language to help you understand why IVF and other ART pregnancies are of the highest risk for poor fetal and neonatal outcomes. You will learn the reasons behind such poor outcomes and how to ask your obstetrician to monitor your IVF pregnancy and treat you accordingly in order to achieve an excellent outcome with a well developed, full term and healthy newborn. You can achieve this if you are assertive enough and do not allow anyone to intimidate you into a "standard of care" management. This will certainly increase the odds that your baby will safer life long consequences.
- Perinatal Events and the Fetal Brain: This presentation gives the history of fetal brain damage and neonatal encephalopathy. Discusses the history, pathology, diagnosis and management of the conditions that can cause fetal brain damage and neonatal encephalopathy.
- Placenta Abruption: This presentation discusses the pathology, epidemiology, diagnosis and management of placenta abruption. Use the VCR like buttons to control the progression of the slides. You may pause, and advance slides one at a time at your own pace.
- Preeclampsia:Diagnosis and Management: This is a presentation on the old and the new concepts on preeclampsia. The presentation was prepared for physicians in practice and in training. - Recurrent Pregnancy loss: This presentation was prepared for physicians in practice and in training. It contains valuable information that can be understood by other health care professionals as well as lay people. Recurrent pregnancy loss (miscarriage) is a serious problem that has not been addressed adequately by most obstetricians. Although it is true that many patients have experienced one or more losses, it does not make it a "normal event" as some clinicians consider it. Many obstetricians will not attempt to investigate the reasons for a lost pregnancy until the patient loses 3 or more pregnancies. This is an old barbaric concept that should be abandoned. In today's environment, most women start their pregnancies at a late stage in their lives and any one loss might be their last one. Read the slides carefully and you will learn what is the correct way to manage patients who have experienced one or more miscarriages.
- What you need to know about thrombophilia: Thrombophilia is responsible for a large number of miscarriages, fetal deaths, premature babies, cerebral palsy and numerous other pregnancy related complications. Most of such complications can be prevented if your condition is diagnosed early and treated properly. Your doctor may not be familiar with thrombophilia. Learn how to demand proper care for the benefit of your unborn.
