We acknowledge its complexity and strive to facilitate the most optimal intrauterine environment possible in order to guide your child's development during its nine months in utero. We understand that a healthy placenta, which serves as the nexus of fetal development within the womb, almost guarantees a risk-free pregnancy. By focusing most of our attention on ensuring healthy placental development, we have continuously managed to outperform other perinatal care providers in the reduction and/or elimination of complications during the course of our patient’s pregnancies.
Sat, 19 Feb 2011 10:13:23 GMT Staff http://www.kofinasperinatal.org/?objectid=4ED09CCE-3048-7098-AFD31C20BB50D056 Diane Sulzinski, Chief Ultrasound Technician:

Diane is a registered technician (RDMS) and has passed all the required examinations in order to meet the standards of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). Her work with Dr. Kofinas started in 1995, and since then has been involved in several research projects under his supervision. After suffering 2 miscarriages and a horrible pregnancy with Dylan, I was overjoyed when I became pregnant in January 2007. Immediately, my joy turned into sadness when I began bleeding. I was positive I was losing another baby. At this point I had no OB/GYN, and felt alone and hopeless. Lying in bed one night, I suddenly remembered that I was given your name and number in 2004 during my pregnancy with Dylan. I knew I had to meet you. On February 14 2007, with nowhere else to turn, I called your Garden City office in the hopes of scheduling an appointment to uncover why I was losing another pregnancy. I spoke with Stacy first, and then was transferred over to Christine. From that moment on, I knew I was in great hands. Christine spent close to an hour on the phone with me obtaining my history, etc. Within an hour, I had an abundance of literature pertaining to thrombophilia, and most importantly some hope. Christine and Stacy were so caring, warm and professional. Christine arranged for me to have labs done the very next day. I met you 2 days later and the rest of my journey is history....

On October 9, 2007 Ryan Kenneth was born. As you always reassured me, he is healthy and beautiful. He has brought so much joy to our entire family. Thanks to you, the miscarriage I once mourned I now the life that I celebrate. I will never fully be able to communicate to you how truly thankful I am for you. You saved my baby. You never judged me. You are an outstanding physician, and a wonderful person. You outshine every other doctor with not only your brilliance and expertise, but with your compassion and love for our patients and their babies. You gave Dylan the sibling I always wanted him to have. I think of you everyday, and as Ryan grows I will tell him about the wonderful man who saved his life. I have truly been blessed. I will never forget you, Dr. Kofinas. Thank you for Ryan.

Sat, 19 Mar 2011 10:41:03 GMT From Denise and John http://www.kofinasperinatal.org/?objectid=CC96AD08-3048-7098-AFE5C44DC52DE528 Dear Dr. Kofinas,
Words could never express our gratitude for everything you have done for us. Luke Anthony is here because of you…your tireless devotion, your endless knowledge, your God given gift to nurture the unborn.

Never have we met a physician who truly cared, who showed such compassion, who freely gave so much of himself to his work. A man who lives his life following his own sense of deep personal commitment.

I remember driving to your Brooklyn office feeling such anxiety and fear, scared for our unborn baby, and by the time we left Park Slope, as late in the evening as it was, feeling confident and hopeful that everything would be all right. You always made us feel as if you would spend all the time in the world with us if need be, in spite of the fact that you had a full waiting room. You took the time to not only explain everything that was happening but to say an encouraging word. You always made us feel more hopeful and better able to face the challenges that lay ahead for us. You were there for us as we faced some very difficult times and heart ache.

When your office opened in Garden City we felt as if you provided a haven for us to come and get a glimpse of our baby, where we saw him thrive under your care. We felt a tremendous sense of comfort in knowing that you were with us during this very critical time.

God answered our prayers by giving us our son and allowing us to find you. We feel truly blessed. We know that God is doing some of his finest work through you. You have “the gift”…You are a man who has a calling that is so pure and so very important.

The medical profession and people like us are tremendously fortunate to have a physician like yourself. One person can truly make a difference, and you did, and we just wanted to let you know that we’ll always be grateful.

God bless you and thank you,
Denise and John
Mon, 05 Jul 2010 18:24:35 GMT From Peter & Claudia http://www.kofinasperinatal.org/?objectid=CCB0B5C4-3048-7098-AFDE87DB38C752F3
Dear Dr. Kofinas,

You are in our thoughts all the time. When we think of how you saved our daughter’s life our hearts are filled with joy. We cannot thank you enough. Every time we look at her beautiful smile we think of what you did for us. If it wasn’t for you we may not have had this angel in our life. You are an extraordinary doctor and we cannot say enough good things about you. We trusted you with our unborn child’s life and it’s all thanks to you that she is with us today.

We remember you telling us of your trip to Greece and the baby that died from a hematoma. It was so ironic how this happened to us when you came back from doing so much research on it. We know of women who have miscarried because of blood clotting and we can’t tell you how upset it makes us knowing that this could have happened to us. But thanks to you we were very lucky, and Samantha was born.

We would also like to thank your staff, especially Jennifer, Christina, Irena and Olga. Thank you girls so much. You were always very caring, friendly and comforting especially during the stressful times when we had the CVS and then again for the amnio in the 36th week. You are wonderful and you made us feel comfortable knowing that you were keeping such a close watch on our unborn child’s development. Christina, we are especially thankful to you for first spotting the hematoma and bringing it to the doctor’s attention. We miss being pregnant and coming to your office. The best part of being pregnant was coming in for the sonograms and seeing how she was growing.

Samantha is 6 months and weighs over 15 pounds. She is perfect. She is such a happy baby, always smiling and laughing. She is our little miracle.

We are eternally grateful for all you have done for us and when Samantha is old enough to understand we will tell her the story of how Dr. Kofinas saved her life.

Love,
Peter & Claudia
Sat, 19 Mar 2011 10:00:34 GMT From Theresa and Robert http://www.kofinasperinatal.org/?objectid=CCB322DC-3048-7098-AFCADC7DB42F51B8
Dear Dr. Kofinas and Staff,

I cannot believe that time has passed so quickly and that today will be my last visit to this office. At least as a patient. IÕll be sure to be back with my beautiful baby so that we can say thank you for all that you have done for us. How can I possibly express all my gratitude and appreciation to such a wonderful doctor? I simply cannot. During an extremely anxious and nervous time in my life, you, Dr. Kofinas, have always reassured me and gave me strength when I needed it the most. You are an incredible expert in your field, but most importantly you are an amazing gentleman. Thanks to everyone on staff who was always so kind and gracious to me when I arrived every Friday. We were lucky enough to meet with you at the most unfortunate opportunity. My wife and I had just left her high risk pregnancy specialist after learning the news that we were in jeopardy of losing our first child due to as he described unforeseen and unexplained reasons. Even though he had ordered and administered a number of expensive and thorough exams including an "amnio" all that were performed over a number of weeks while our baby girl was slowly suffocating to death with a steady reduction of amniotic fluid, as we have come to learn from you that could only mean a placenta abnormality. After specifically, asking our high-risk specialist what steps should be taken to attempt to correct this condition and save this precious child we were given a nonchalant "we will just keep monitoring, and simply hope for a correction" that was not good enough from a medical "specialist"; we asked to be referred to you by a number of friends of ours, and thankful patients of yours. After, our first consultation you said to us the worst thing that we ever expected to hear from and also the best thing that we could have gotten us through what we were about to go through emotionally and physically. You told us straight from your heart without any sugarcoating that Madlena's placenta had deteriorated, that the baby already suffered extensive damage, and that you would not be able to help. Most doctors would have seen this to be an opportunity to earn a few more dollars by stretching the inevitable truth out over a few more visits, but you hugged my wife as she was all in tears and assured us that the next pregnancy would be an utter success. Our previous specialist did not even offer us a Kleenex!!!
Dr. Kofinas from that day forward my wife could not get out of our minds the level of confidence that you had for the next time we would be lucky enough to get pregnant again. Thank God you came into our lives because four months later my wife got pregnant with our son Leonard. We followed your advice to an exact science, and everything went as smooth as possible just as you had promised and assured us that it would on that very first 4 months earlier.
The level of service that your staff gave to my wife is unheard of in our hustle and bustle society but they went to great lengths to make sure she was comfortable and well taken care of in every which way possible. My wife, would rush to her appointments every two weeks, you would make her feel as comfortable as possible, thank God for people like you in this world.
I believe it is God-sent that we stumbled upon you, and a great shame to our population that more people in the medical society do not listen to your findings in this matter, and there are too many babies dying because of their closed minds. Leonard came out as perfect as possible no complications no unwarranted surprises, healthy and a beautiful six pound fourteen ounce twenty inch long baby boy. Thanks to you this has turned out to be the most wonderful Thanksgiving ever imaginable. Every time we look at him we cannot believe what our world would be like if God had not sent you to us.
God Bless You Dr. Alex Kofinas!!!!!!!!!!

Tue, 01 Jul 2008 01:16:23 GMT From Ari Fisch...... http://www.kofinasperinatal.org/?objectid=0B1B3F58-FF5C-8A5D-EA23E85C400E1ED9 Dear Doctor,
As you know, born to us 7/10/07 was our son Elazar Fisch****. This, in no small part, is due to your special care and expertise. Throughout the pregnancy I had composed in my head a letter of thanks to you that I would put down on paper as soon as our child was born. It was full of well deserved praise and words of gratitude. I had thought it up and was satisfied with it. Then I saw your bulletin board full of letters. There they were, all the words I was going to use. My first thought was "Dam, I am not original" My very next thought was, "Of course." Of course those words were taken, of course the pouring out of gratitude and the genuine thanks filled the wall. Your work, the work to bring new life to this world, to bring joy to parents who have experienced terrible pain, to bring hope where it may have been lost, is of the noblest work one can do on this earth. Of course I am ever grateful to you but even more so, I am proud to know you. My son and all the generations thereafter owe their existence, in part, to you. When he grows, my son will hear about the great doctor, the doctor who fights against convention, who cares not of politics, who cares only about bringing life, and quality life at that, into this world. As much as any man can be grateful to another, I am to you. Thank you doctor, Thank you. I have a son.

Mon, 01 Sep 2008 17:16:20 GMT From Gittel and Elger http://www.kofinasperinatal.org/?objectid=1FC8240A-FF5C-8A5D-EA63245EE360629D Dear Dr. Kofinas,
On April 6th of this year I was examined by ultrasound in the New York University Hospital. My baby was 22 weeks gestational age. I was told that in spite of the stitch I had had put in, the baby's membranes were bulging into the vagina. I was told that there was absolutely no way to save the baby at this point.

When I heard the terrible diagnosis I was totally devastated. I cried to G-D and pleaded with Him to save our baby. I told Him that just as He created the entire world and everything in it and just as He created us human beings and makes us all function in such wonderous ways-He could surely perform a miracle for us if He only wanted to. I begged Him to help me carry the baby through the pregnancy despite all the odds against us; and to help me give birth to a healthy baby.

We did not know which doctor to turn to. We did not know which doctor would be prepared to try to save the baby at this point- at the risk of perhaps not succeeding- G-D forbid.

Dr. Ari Weinreb recommended you; Dr. Kofinas. From the first moment on, you gave us hope; by telling us the story of the patient you had with the amniotic sac between her legs! Her baby eventually made it. This gave us tremendous hope!

However you were very honest. You told us about the risks involved. You told us what the chances were for success. We gave all this information to our advisor; our Rabbi in Israel, and asked him whether to go ahead and for his blessing and prayers.

He told us to go ahead with you. He gave us his blessing and prayed for us.

Dr. Kofinas, Thanks so so so so so so so much for agreeing to be G-D's messenger. Thanks so much for doing your best to try to save our baby. Thanks so much for your endless commitment to preserving my pregnancy. Thanks so much for your patient and thorough examinations. Thanks so much for giving up so much time to deal with all those hospital personnel who wanted me out earlier, for giving up so much time on all the numerous paperwork involved in my case.

Thank you for the great care you gave me. Thank you for helping us get the most beautiful gift in the world- a full term, healthy baby girl!

Please tell our story to the other couples. Tell them that it is all worth it; the cerclage, the ten and half weeks on bedrest, the medications, the exams and everything else. Tell them to pray to G-D and do their best. At the end, when the baby comes and it's a healthy child with a whole life and future ahead-it is very, very well worth it!

Thank you Dr. Kofinas for everything, plus for being such a kind and understanding person too! I wanted the best for my baby. I found that in you.

Our first meeting was overwhelming. Scared I may not be able to give my baby all he needed. It was not until my last pregnancy that I realized how truly lucky I was to be in your care. From early on we encountered difficulties. It seemed each visit beginning at twenty weeks we had new issues to encounter. I managed to remain calm knowing you were there to care for us. You were always honest and straight forward with me. You would give me the best and worst case scenarios. I appreciated that. Words will never express how entirely grateful I am to you. From the second I walked into your incredible office I knew that I was in the very best of hands. That is what you are Dr. Kofinas, the best. That word gets thrown away too often, but it truly describes you. You are by far, the most intelligent and compassionate doctor I have ever been to (and I have been to many). You are, as my own OB -GYN put it, in a place above the rest, in a category all your own. You give your patients the most precious and valuable gift one could receive: the gift of a child that might not existed.

A misdiagnosis is what brought me to your office and now I thank the Lord for it. Knowledgeable and considerate, I am grateful to each and every one of them. I am so thankful for Christine who gave me the confidence it took to give myself daily injections, answered all of my questions and even came in during her own maternity leave to administer my progesterone shot. When we came to you, our confidence of having a successful pregnancy was very low given out history, but every time I spoke with you either via phone or in the office you always gave us hope. You extended yourself beyond any doctor I have ever met. I remember in the beginning when I was bleeding you told me to call you every day. I mainly remember saying but Thanksgiving is in a couple of days and you without hesitation repeated yourself - call me everyday. Sure enough we spoke Thanksgiving Day. Boy did I have a lot to be thankful for. In addition to your outstanding medical care you also knew how to take care of my emotional needs. You never once rushed me and I always felt like all of my questions/concerns were addressed. That meant so much to me. I looked forward to my appointments with you because you always "held my hand" and helped me just get through week after week. You took care of my baby and me and I always felt so secure and knew the two of us were in the best hands. I think you are an amazing doctor but also an amazing person. It is so clear how dedicated you are to your patients. You have a unique bedside manner and your presence alone gave me a sense of security and calmness. Needless to say I was very anxious throughout the pregnancy but you never once discarded that.

What I guess I am trying to say is thank you for taking care of me during such a stressful but exciting time. Kofinas,

I am compelled to write you my sentiments of how fortunate my family and I are this holiday season. Our greatest gift is our newest addition to our family, Jordan Thomas Kane. Three and a half years ago you never gave up on me and aided me in maintaining my pregnancy with Justin Daniel. Returning to the Fertility Institute soon after to try again for our second child was difficult. I suffered some despair in the process, but I knew my time would come again and it did. In February 2009 I found the courage and determination to begin the IVF treatment again and was fortunate to become pregnant with yet another healthy boy. Through the ups and downs, you have been there with early detection, blood tests, sonograms, careful studies, articulation with associate doctor and staff, and a comfort I felt each time I saw you at a scheduled visit. I knew I was always in the best hands for medical care.

I just want you to know how thankful I am to you and for what you have helped me accomplish. I know I would never have had my boys if not for you and your staff. What you do each day is a medical miracle. Your devotion to women, like me, who are vulnerable, scared, distraught and yet hopeful that they too, will be a mom one day is commendable. The long hours of patient care and research are endless for you, but never unnoticed. I have entrusted in you a belief that has come true for me and the genuine care and concern you have displayed for me will never be forgotten.

During this Christmas holiday, I want you to know how much you've given me and how thankful I am for you in my life. My boys will forever know your name and what you have helped me to achieve. Although this road I've traveled has not been an easy one, I could have never persevered without a strong doctor like yourself. I only hope you know how important and valuable you are to many families like mine. Even though our paths may never cross again, I know how you'll keep on making the impossible... possible, for every couples "pursuit of happiness". Luckily, you have given me mine! You will be with me forever. I love you always.

Sincerely,

Elisa Kan...
Mon, 22 Aug 2011 22:08:23 GMT From Jen, Mike and Carissa http://www.kofinasperinatal.org/?objectid=AA480690-FF5C-8A5D-EA545F3F836C3A9A
Dear Dr. Kofinas, Diane, Christina, Effie, Zoe, Stacey and Christine

Words cannot express how much I appreciate what you have done for me. Thanks again and we will be seeing you soon!

Love,

Jen, Mike and Carissa
Sat, 19 Mar 2011 10:07:23 GMT From Gregory, Danielle and Gavin http://www.kofinasperinatal.org/?objectid=AA50ECB2-FF5C-8A5D-EAA16A96B331141D
Dear Dr. Kofinas, Dr. Nguyen, Christine, Christina, Diane, Zoe, Effie and anyone else I forgot,

I have sat down countless times to write this thank you but can never seem to find the right words to express the amount of gratitude my husband and I have for all you. We came to you at 7 weeks pregnant after my hematologist said I did not need to go on Lovenox. My gut said to get a second opinion and I am so glad we did. When we came to your office we were scared out of our minds to lose our baby but Dr. Kofinas assured me that he was going to do everything he could to help us bring home a healthy full term baby. Over the course of my pregnancy I called numerous times with issues and questions. I was always treated with the greatest amount of care by the office staff (especially when I called hysterically crying at 12 weeks thank you so much Effie for calming me down) and Dr. Kofinas or Dr. Nguyen always got on the phone to help me. I am sure you have heard it a million times, but I have never had such a wonderful experience with a doctor and staff as I have had with all of you. As I sit here staring at my beautiful 4 month old son I cannot imagine our life without him. I hope all of you go home each day knowing that Gavin is with us filling out lives with joy in part because of you and the work you are committed to. We would love to stop by and show you our little angel soon. Thank you again for everything you have done for us. We love you!

Love,

Gregory, Danielle and Gavin
Sat, 19 Dec 2009 23:22:21 GMT From Jessica Fisc..... http://www.kofinasperinatal.org/?objectid=B337B720-FF5C-8A5D-EA4258BCC569787E
Dear Dr. Kofinas and staff,

I can hardly believe I have a son to hold in my arms after all these years and all our heartache. So first and foremost, I thank you for the life of my baby.

Next, I want to thank you for the peace of mind I had during the pregnancy. Okay, I admit it- I was a nervous wreck. (But you knew that! ;-). However, there are different degrees of nervousness. I have had pregnancies where I was nervous because there were horrible things happening in the pregnancy-bleeding and contractions that kept getting worse, miscarriages, no heartbeats, etc. I am so grateful that you were able to prevent those manifestations of complications. I was anxious, but I knew I was anxious mostly because of my history and not so much because there were actual things going wrong. And I cannot thank you enough for that. The peace of mind that I had coming in as frequently as we did and seeing the sonograms and speaking to the doctor regularly and knowing exactly where we were holding brought me as much relief as was possible under those circumstances. I have been to other high-risk practices and feel that your level of care and medical expertise is not to be compared. Your methods and knowledge inspire a unique confidence.

The Jewish Sages describe an ideal of one who "sees what is born,"( in Hebrew "ha'ro'eh et hanolad") i.e., sees future events before they have fully developed. It is a specific skill to be able to see trends and how things will play out before they are fully expressed. It is a beautiful thing that in your practice, you look for hints of problems before they become unstoppable problems, at a point when you can actually do something and change the outcome! I will never forget when, at 15 weeks and bleeding more heavily, I called a high-risk practice that I had consulted at 11 weeks due to spotting. And they told me, "We can't do anything. Either he will live or he won't." My water broke in the fifth month and that baby is forever lost to me. I am so grateful to have found you, because your scrutiny and pre-emptive care prevented the same thing from happening again. Because of your ability to "see what is born," we have been fortunate to see our son born.

Thank you.

Jessie Fisc....
Wed, 26 Jan 2011 16:03:31 GMT From Jennifer and Chuck Suf... http://www.kofinasperinatal.org/?objectid=0E36FB80-CD35-11E0-B299005056A03A28
Dear Dr. Kofinas, Dr. Nguyen, Diane, Stacey, Zoe, Effie, Christine, Jennifer, and Georgia

How do you begin to thank someone for changing your life? For finding an answer to such a long painful ordeal and for placing the baby you thought you would never have safely in your arms? There are no words adequate enough to thank you all. To you it was your job but to my husband and I it was nothing short of miraculous.

It has been one whole year since our son Charles Daniel was born and every day since you have all been in our hearts. After six miscarriages, endless tears and countless doctors telling us to “relax” and “miscarriages are common” you Dr. Kofinas were the only person who found the problem. You with an extensive blood panel pinpointed an easily detectable thrombosis problem and changed our lives forever.

Charles is a beautiful, active, happy baby- I cannot imagine life without him. The care you all gave me and “cheeks” as Diane used to call him was amazing. Anxiety disappeared with every visit and I will never forget you telling me to stop looking at HCG levels and focus on the baby. “We have a baby and we are going to get it here safely”.

It is no secret to you by now that I have recommended several people to you and I hope in some small way helped to ease the pain for other women who have the same issue.

We are today and will always be so grateful to you for our son, for giving us hope and understanding how scared we were to experience another loss. I think of you every time he smiles at me and every time I see Rebecca with her little brother. She will have a sibling long after we are gone and we owe that to you.

We heard about you years ago in a playground, my husband was speaking to one of the ladies there who had learned we suffered another loss. She told my husband your name and simply this “He works miracles”.

No words were ever truer than those and I cherish the miracle you gave to me.

It is more than just a job- you change lives.

All out love and thanks

Chuck, Jennifer, Rebecca

and

Charles “Cheeks” Suffel
Mon, 22 Aug 2011 23:11:04 GMT
